Over time, creatures took notice of the big white flower with the sweet smell. They were drawn to the scent that spread through the air for miles. They came from distances to smell the magnolias up close, but when the creatures came near to the flower, they were entranced into taking a bite. This happened so often that The Goddess of Soil felt that the magnolias were no longer just for her. Sometimes the rain would fall, and The God of Flowers would try to make a magnolia grow, but in its place, only mud would appear. Over and over, He would try to make magnolias grow, only for his effort to go to waste. The rain watered nothing anymore. It only wet the ground, mixing with Her tears to make mud.

“Why do you allow them to eat the magnolias?” she asked him.

“They come because the magnolia is unlike any other flower I have ever created. My love for you is so beautiful that it sings to them,” he said.
